Editing

Editing is a skill...it's part knowledge, part instinct, part experience.

It's knowing when to use the rules, and when to throw them out. It's about massaging the text so that it's still clearly your voice, your ideas, your message...but delivered in a way that makes the reader want to keep reading, whether it's an advert, a magazine article, or a book.

I can help rearrange your text, or change its direction to appeal to your target audience. I may suggest re-writing a section, or a chapter, so that it has more appeal, or to give it more clarity or flow. I might ask you to write more, to strengthen your case.

All of this will be done with sensitivity and honesty. I understand that it's your baby, and it's precious to you, but I will tell you honestly what works, and what doesn't. If the idea is good and there is a possible market for your book, I'll tell you how much work it needs – if any – to attract a publisher. Even if you're not interested in being published, or you want to self-publish, editing is still important.

It's not easy to have your work scrutinised, but if it's accepted by a publisher, changes will be made to suit the editor, not you... so it's easier to make the changes now, in a much more collaborative way.

I can help you make your submission to an agent or publishing house, or offer guidance on self publishing, printing and design. I work with artists who specialise in book design, and who are also sensitive to matters Spiritual.

My job isn't to re-write everything you've written (unless that's what you want!) – my job is to shape your text, the words and the content, to give it sense, shape and direction, so that the final version reads as beautifully and as clearly as it can.

  • I edit:
    • Books
    • Web sites
    • Text – copy for magazine articles, brochures, flyers, adverts
    • Biographies (ghost writing)
    • Other media – DVDs, CDs and so on, with the help of my specialist friends.

Just Proofreading

I can identify and correct typographical, punctuation and spelling errors, as well as formatting inconsistencies in your manuscript.

Ghost Writing

If you have a story to tell, but don't know where to start, or are absolutely positive that you can't write, or don't have the time to do it even if you could, I can help.

I can offer as much or as little input as you desire, and the final product is all yours.

Please Note: I do not work on spec (i.e., without payment in exchange for a promise of future earnings). I also cannot guarantee that your manuscript will be accepted by an agent and/or published.
